Vibhishana

Vibhishana is a significant character in the Indian epic Ramayana, known for his unwavering commitment to righteousness (dharma). He is the younger brother of Ravana, the powerful demon king of Lanka. Unlike his siblings, Vibhishana possesses a noble and virtuous nature, which sets him apart from the rest of his family.

When Ravana abducts Sita, the wife of Lord Rama, Vibhishana advises his brother to return her and seek a peaceful resolution. He warns Ravana that keeping Sita against her will would bring about his downfall and the destruction of Lanka. However, Ravana, blinded by arrogance and power, refuses to heed Vibhishana’s counsel.

Seeing that his brother is resolute in his path of adharma (unrighteousness), Vibhishana chooses to abandon his family and kingdom. He defects to Rama’s side, seeking refuge and offering his loyalty. Vibhishana’s decision is a testament to his moral integrity, as he prioritizes righteousness over familial ties.
